Osteoarthritis Symptoms Prevention and Treatment

Osteoarthritis:

Osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease of joints that occur most often in people over the age of 50.

Symptoms:

  • Pain in the knee joint with morning stiffness of joint.
  • Pain in hips
  • Pain in fingers
  • Movements are difficult at involved joints
  • Enlargement of joints
  • Morning stiffness of joints
It can also cause stiffness and get worse with activity.

People who are at Risk:

  • Obese people
  • People with prior joint injury
  • People having a sedentary lifestyle
  • People who consume much meat ( Meat contains Protein which contains Amino Acids, Breakdown of Amino Acids produces Urea .sometimes Urea Crystals are formed in Joints which causes pain and lead to Gout, Arthritis etc )

Diagnosis:

  • It is usually diagnosed by symptoms
  • The physician may advise X-ray of the Joint
  • Rheumatoid Factor Test. Increased value suggest the presence of disease.

Treatment and Prevention:

  • Regular Excercise
  • Weight loss
  • Pain Killers (NSAIDs) are given for pain relief
  • If the symptoms persist despite the measures the physician may offer Glucocorticoid Injections or Surgery
